Cars and Casting has added the 1989 Chevy caprice to its network of picture vehicles available for rental in New York. Located in East Northport, New York, this vehicle comes through the USA Movie Cars platform and gives productions access to a period-correct police sedan without leaving the state. Crews working on film, television, or commercial projects in the New York area can now consider this car for scenes that call for authentic 1980s law enforcement detail.

Spotlight on this 1989 Chevy caprice

This 1989 Chevrolet Caprice carries the iconic 1980s NYPD blue paint scheme along with authentic badging. Working emergency lights sit on the roof, and flashing highway riser lights move up and down as they did on patrol vehicles of that era. The car also features the period Mark 7 siren and a Motorola police radio programmed to receive NYPD traffic broadcasts, plus correct NYPD license plates.

These elements combine to create a ready-to-use highway patrol car for productions that need functional lighting and sound cues. The four-door sedan body style and blue interior further support its role as a standard municipal police vehicle from the late 1980s.

Cars and Casting and the New York Picture Car Market

Cars and Casting connects productions with local vehicles through the USA Movie Cars network. East Northport, New York sits on Long Island, placing the 1989 Chevy caprice within easy reach of crews filming across the New York metro region. USA Movie Cars works with state picture-car sites such as New York Picture Cars to help productions find local picture vehicles rather than searching multiple platforms.

This approach reduces travel time for location managers and picture car coordinators who need a New York film car on short notice. Productions can search for New York picture car rental options and New York movie car listings while knowing the vehicle remains based in the state.

History of the 1989 Chevy caprice

The Chevrolet Caprice served as a common platform for police fleets throughout the 1980s. Municipal departments, including the NYPD, used the full-size sedan for its durability and spacious interior that accommodated equipment and multiple officers. By 1989 the model had already seen years of refinement in both civilian and law enforcement versions.

The listing description notes that the NYPD began using motorized vehicles more than a century ago, starting with a horseless carriage for the Police Commissioner. The 1989 Caprice represents a later stage in that progression, when departments adopted standardized paint schemes and lighting packages that became familiar to the public through news footage and television.

New York Picture Car Rental Uses

Producers can use this 1989 Chevy caprice for scenes set in the 1980s or early 1990s that require a working police vehicle. The functional lights and siren allow crews to capture drive-by shots or stationary establishing views without added post-production effects. Background texture in street scenes benefits from the correct NYPD plates and era-specific radio chatter.

Commercials and music videos shot in New York can place the car in frame to signal law enforcement presence or period atmosphere. Still photography and branded content shoots gain the same visual authenticity when the vehicle sits parked or moves through frame at low speed. Event planners have also staged the car for corporate or promotional displays that reference New York police heritage.
